Overview

Srinagar to Leh Bike Trip

Enjoy Srinagar to Leh Bike Trip is over high passes in an arid due to largely treeless rain shadow. Ladakh boasts because of a classic Trans Himalayan scenery. The huge khaki-coloured valleys and big rock walls brought alive by the splash of green fields. Traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture remains attracting here due to beautiful monasteries. They burst into life during dance festivals but they have changed little in over 500 years.
This contains everything an adventure lover wants. Epic treks, sparkling high-altitude mountain lakes. A well developed backpacker infrastructure based around the capital, Leh.

Leh

Leh was an important stopover on trade routes along the Indus Valley. It is between Tibet to the east, Kashmir to the west and also between India and China for many years . Salt, grain, pashm or cashmere wool, charas or cannabin from the Tarim Basin, indigo, silk yarn and Banaras brocade are the most carried goods.

Although there are a couple of indications that the Chinese knew of a trade route through Ladakh to India as early because the Kushan period and positively by Tang , little is really known of the history of the region before the formation of the dominion towards the top of the 10th century by the Tibetan prince, Skyid lde nyima gon, a grandson of the anti-Buddhist Tibetan king. His army originally numbered only 300 men but still conquered western Tibetan.

Several towns and castles are said to possess been founded by Nyima gon and he apparently ordered the development of the most sculptures. He says he had them made for the religious advantage of the Tsanpo (the dynastical name of his father and ancestors), and of all the people of Ngaris (Western Tibet) in an inscripton. This shows that already during this generation Langdarma’s opposition to Buddhism had disappeared. Shey, just 15 km east of recent Leh, was the traditional seat of the Ladakhi kings.
