Srinagar Leh Highway current status is closed. As October approaches, almost all high-altitude crossings in Ladakh, Kashmir and Himachal have begun to receive heavy amounts of snow. Although traffic movement is still allowed between Sonamarg and Drass, crossing Zoji La is no longer considered a safe affair. Snow began to accumulate along the route and forms black ice overnight, making the road slippery and dangerous to move on. As a tourist, consider the road closed for the season and plan your trip next year.

Srinagar Leh Highway Latest News
One of the most important factors that will determine the status of the road between Srinagar and Leh next year is how the entire Kashmir situation will develop. The removal of article 370 changed not only the geographical map of India, but also the lives of people living in Kashmir and Ladakh. So far, in the year 2019, there have been no serious incidents, but that does not mean that the situation has resolved. Curfew is still imposed in major parts of the valley and telephone services have not yet been fully restored. Things are not fully under control yet and there is no telling how everything will be next year. Therefore, before planning your trip, check the news before deciding whether to include the Srinagar to Leh road in your itinerary or not.

Road condition in Srinagar Leh
Most of the highway was in good condition by the year 2019. There were some bad stretches as well; but overall, the road was mostly a mix of good and medium. Heavy snowfall and extreme winters cause a lot of road damage; so by 2020 it’s something we won’t know until the road is opened. I will post the latest images of the highway on our Topic in the community forum, which I ask you to check.
I can’t post many images on this page because it will get too heavy; so for images take a look at the forum thread. Today there really is no telling the condition of the road in Srinagar-Leh until it is completely open. The stretch between Leh and Kargil, however, remains open year round and is completely quiet.
Srinagar Leh Highway in October
The status of Srinagar Leh highway in October remains open, but a trip at the end of the month is never a good idea. It can snow anytime in Zoji La in October and although the road may stay open, it may be temporarily closed for some days. The risk of driving on slippery stretches, of course, will remain in October.
Srinagar Leh Highway in april
The status of the Srinagar to Leh road in April will depend entirely on how much it snowed and how fast the BRO was able to clear snow. Historically, however, the road remains closed for the first part of the month and is only open after the 20th. My advice would be to wait for weather updates before finalizing your itinerary. Traveling the first week of May will be a much better idea than April.
Srinagar Leh Highway in may
The road conditions from Srinagar to Leh in may are much better and stable compared to april. It is among the best months to travel on the route between Srinagar and Leh. The weather will be pleasant and you will also see a lot of snow, which practically disappeared in late May.
Srinagar Leh Highway in June
The current status of Srinagar Leh Road in June is completely open and safe for travel. This is the peak tourist season in Kashmir and Ladakh and another good month to be on the route.
Srinagar Leh Highway in July and August
Both months are the monsoon season period. Although it does not rain so much in Ladakh, it certainly happens in the Kashmir area. Floods, landslides and incessant rainfall are a normal occurrence in these two months. September is an amazing month for a trip to Kashmir and Ladakh. The rains would end, but they would leave a lot of vegetation in Kashmir for you to enjoy. Ladakh’s barren landscape presents an incredible contrast of colors this month. The road will remain completely open and you will be able to travel freely.
