If you were planning a trip to Kashmir soon; and wanted to rent a taxi there for local sightseeing; or to travel to Ladakh or Zanskar; below are the rates for the Srinagar taxi union in 2018. The image below lists the tax rates for visiting places in the Kashmir Valley locally; or by renting a taxi to go to Kargil or Leh. These fares are for private taxis, including Scorpio, Tavera and Innova SUVs. Some small hatchbacks are also available for rent and may cost a little less, but the difference will not be that big. In most cases, only large cars and SUVs with good ground clearance are mainly rented. The rates below are not applicable to the A.C. vehicle. If you need the CA in the connected car, this will cost 19% more than the total taxi rental.

In fact, the rates above are the same as last year. In the past two years, taxi unions in Srinagar haven’t changed their rates much, but an increase is expected in 2018. The exact amount and timing is undecided, but taxi operators speculate an increase of around 20-25% in total tariffs in 2018.
For the time being, these rates remain applicable, but you may be asked to pay up to 25% more of this cost while in Srinagar. If rates increase, I will post review rates here in this post.
The rates mentioned above are all for private taxis, but there are also shared taxis for some of the most popular tourist destinations. I mentioned the shared taxi rates later in this article.
The important thing to know when renting a taxi in Srinagar is that these taxis will not be allowed to travel the routes in Ladakh and Zanskar. This is a dispute that local taxi operators in these areas have; or maybe you can call it an agreement too. Registered taxis in Srinagar do not take tourists to tour Ladakh and Zanskar; and vice versa. So, if you rented a taxi in Srinagar, he will drop you off in Kargil or Leh; from where you will have to rent another taxi to visit Zanskar or Ladakh.
Fares are applicable for pick and drop at the Tourist Reception Center, also known as TRC, in Srinagar. It is located on the Srinagar Leh road, near Lake Dal. If you, however, wanted the driver to choose you in a different location; like your hotel or airport, they may charge a little more for that.
Srinagar to Ladakh Taxi
Ladakh in recent years has come up as one of the hot favorite tourists destinations in our country. From Srinagar, you will easily find both private and shared taxis going towards Ladakh. Thing however is that the shared cabs of the journey in a non-stop manner, running all the way to Ladakh with no stop. If you want to break the journey in 2 or 3 days, you will have to opt for a private taxi. If you rent a taxi for Ladakh and would like to add a stay at other places like Gulmarg then a per day charge will apply.
Srinagar to Leh Private Taxi Fare
A one day journey from Srinagar to Leh in a private taxi will cost you about Rs. 15,000. The cab will travel non-stop for about 18 to 20 hours and will drop you at Leh. If you break this journey in 2 days then the charge will increase to Rs. 17,000. Any more than 2 days and up to 6 days, this journey will cost you approximately Rs. 30,000.
For journeys of more than 2 days, your accommodation at places in between is of course not included. You also will not be required to pay for the driver as well. For night stay, you will have to look for a hotel for yourself and driver will find his own accommodation.
Also, if you completed the journey in 18 hours, a non-stop cab that is, then chances are that you will definitely suffer from altitude sickness. Your gain in altitude will be sudden in a matter of few hours and you will experience of symptoms of acute mountain sickness.
Srinagar to Leh Shared Taxi
A shared taxi from Srinagar to Leh will cost you approximately Rs. 2,200 per person. If you are traveling alone; or on a budget and do not want to be traveling in the bus then boarding a shared taxi from Srinagar for Leh is a great choice. The only drawback is that these taxis travel non-stop for about 18-20 hours; with very limited breaks and can get uncomfortable. It is not a good option if you are traveling with family.
Srinagar to Leh Taxi Fare One Way
If you want to book a taxi for one way journey from Srinagar to Leh then it will cost you Rs. 14,000 for one day journey and Rs. 17,000 for 2 day journey. If you however want to book a cab from Srinagar for return journey as well then you will have to book it for 6 days; for a total of Rs. 30,000.
Taxi from Srinagar to Kargil
You will board a taxi from Srinagar to Kargil to visit the Kargil or Zanskar valley or continue to Ladakh after a stay in Kargil. Like Ladakh, taxi service options to Kargil are also in the form of private and shared taxis; charge that they are, as mentioned below.
Taxi fare from Srinagar to Kargil
From Srinagar, for a drop to Kargil in one day, the taxi will cost Rs. 6,400. For a return trip, right back to Srinagar the next day, the taxi will cost you Rs. 13,200. If you want to stay in Kargil for a day and return to Srinagar on the 3rd, a 3-day trip will cost Rs. 14,730.
Srinagar to Kargil shared taxi
A shared taxi from Srinagar to Kargil will cost Rs. 900 to Rs. 1000 per person. The trip will be completed in one day and the taxi will arrive in Kargil by night.
Srinagar Makes Jammu Taxi
A private taxi from Srinagar to Jammu will cost Rs. 4,900 for a day’s journey. A shared taxi from Srinagar to Jammu will charge Rs. 700 per person. It’s a day’s journey. The taxi will start in Srinagar in the morning and arrive in Jammu in the late afternoon.

A private taxi from Jammu to Srinagar for a day trip will charge Rs. 5000 approximately. If you board a shared taxi, it will cost Rs. 800 – Rs. 900 per person. These taxis are available at the Jammu Bus booth and complete the trip to Srinagar in one day.

A private taxi to leave the airport in Srinagar will cost Rs. 700. To pick up from the airport and drop at your hotel will cost you Rs. 1,026.00

A taxi from Srinagar to Gulmarg will cost Rs. 1,850 for a one-way drop. If you however would like to return to Srinagar by the same taxi, then it will cost you Rs. 2,050
Taxi fare from Srinagar to Pahalgam
A private taxi from Srinagar to Pahalgam will cost Rs. 2,500 for fall and Rs. 2,950 for a return trip.
Taxi fare from Srinagar to Sonamarg
From Srinagar, a private taxi will cost Rs. 2,400 for a fall to Sonamarg. However, if you want to book the same taxi for the return trip, it will cost Rs. 2,850.

A private taxi for a return trip from Srinagar to Yusmarg will cost Rs. 2,050
Taxi fare from Srinagar to Baltal
A private taxi from Srinagar to Baltal for a day trip will cost Rs. 3,650. However, if you booked the same taxi for your trip back to Srinagar the next day, the taxi will cost Rs. 5.170. For a three-day trip with a stay in Baltal or Sonamarg or anywhere else on the way, it will cost Rs. 6,590.

- If you booked a private taxi to the Mughal gardens of Chesmashahi, Nishat and Shalimar, then it will cost Rs. 1,270
- A private taxi for an extended trip, including the three gardens mentioned above, in addition to Parimahal, S. Temple and Hazratbal, would cost Rs. 2,330
- If you just want to go to Hazratbal and come back, it will cost Rs. 700
- To visit the Parimahal and Chasmashahi gardens, a private taxi will cost Rs. 900
- A taxi to take you around the old town costs Rs. 1,000
